“In the final analysis I believe in man in spite of men.” ~Elie Wiesel

I recall as a young boy thinking of girls as alien beings inhabiting the same planet but playing by a whole different set of rules. They were seen as the enemy and I was convinced that boys were superior to girls. I recall my sister arguing that boys had cooties and that girls rule. I believe she won that argument. Without awareness, we were taking part in collective narcissism. Collective narcissism, also known as group narcissism, is a type of narcissism where an individual has an inflated self-love for their in-group. The individual will see his or her group as superior to all other groups and it may function as a narcissistic entity. At that point of my young life, my sister and…

Are writers born or made?

I just love this article! According to Milly, “There is no doubt that the most important attribute you really need to be a successful writer is resilience, not talent.”. Absolutely. Read more:

Milly Schmidt

The whole ‘Are Writers Born or Made’ debate is still very much alive, and I thought I’d have a go at unwrapping thisonion from the perspective of a writer who believes they are very much not “naturally talented” at writing. I’m not saying this to be humble or self-depreciating – I really wasn’t very proficient at writing when I was little. I remember quite vividly during ‘story writing time’ at around age 10, always wishing and dreaming that the teacher would finally pick my story to read to the class. But she never did. Because there was always someone better andmore ‘talented’, who could express themselves far more succinctly on the page than I could. And so I was left with my daydreams, keeping my stories hidden and out of sight.

Keep Me In Your Prayers……..

A must read – real meaning behind the words “Keep Me in Your Prayers.”

Boundless Blessings by Kamal

an-old-wrecked-wooden-boat-on-the-shore-e59chh[1].jpg

Since we always say “Keep me in your prayers” to each other, I thought of sharing a small story about the actual meaning of these five words:

A voyaging ship was wrecked during a storm at sea and only two of the men on it were able to swim to a small, desert like island. The two survivors, not knowing what else to do, agreed that they had no other recourse but to pray to God. However, to find out whose prayer was more powerful, they agreed to divide the territory between them and stay on the opposite sides of the island.

The first thing they prayed for was food. The next morning, the first man saw a fruit-bearing tree on his side of the land, and he was able to eat its fruit. The other man’s parcel of land remained barren. After a week, the first man…

The Law Of 1%

Giggles & Tales

It is said that one of the biggest causes of unhappiness is when the gap between who you are and who you are meant to be is huge and there is no plan in place to close in on it.

The larger that gap, the unhappier you are.
The smaller the gap, the happier you are.

This gap should never be closed really, because we should always strive to be more, do more, the process in itself is the goal.

Wordplay Saturday ( week 3)

This happens to me all the time – L’ésprit d’escalier”. Find out more about the word from Shooting Star. =)

Bohemian Vistas

Yupz!! we are in the third week of wordplay and I am truly happy with your lovely feedback. So I thought I would go with one of the most interesting words of one hell of a popular language!! Yeah, you guessed right, it’s French! And here goes the word :-

L’ésprit d’escalier” – youknow how we all sometimes have anargument and come up with the perfect witty comeback just a few hours too late? Well, if you just said “oh I know that! ” then this expression is for you. L’esprit d’escalier is the feeling of finding the perfect retort but just a bit too late, when you can’t help cursing yourself more than the person you were actually fighting with !!! So, this word too, quite naturally does not have a direct English translation but it literally translates to “staircase wit” or “afterwit” . The 18th…

5 Important Qualities of Leadership

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” ~John Quincy Adams

Whether we are trying to lead a country or a household, we must remember it is both a privilege and a challenge to be given an opportunity to lead. Leaders are not born, but molded by the waves of life. Daily life truly is the best classroom and we must treat every obstacle as an opportunity to hone the skill of leading not only ourselves, but others too.

Here are 5 qualities necessary to be a good leader:

1. Courage
“Courage is the first of human qualities because it is the quality which guarantees the others.” ~ Aristotle

One of the most important traits a good leader must have is courage. One must possess courage to accept the…

Tips on How to Make an Impression

According to Amy Jo Martin, “Social media is changing the way we communicate and the way we are perceived, both positively and negatively. Every time you post a photo or update your status, you are contributing to your own digital footprint and personal brand.

I guess some people are just convinced with these notions that:

  • First impressions last.
  • You never get a second chance to create a good first impression.

While this is true, I reckon this truth is just overwhelming. Such that there is a certain pressure, as a result, to put up a wonderful show and to share just the stunning. Which we all know – this isn’t real with life.

Life is meant to be:

  • “The dance between darkness and light — the stars and the moon will always need the darkness to be seen, the darkness will just not be worth having without the moon and the stars.” –  C JoyBell C
  • “If we never experience the chill of a dark winter, it is very unlikely that we will ever cherish the warmth of a bright summer’s day. Nothing stimulates our appetite for the simple joys of life more than the starvation caused by sadness or desperation. In order to complete our amazing life journey successfully, it is vital that we turn each and every dark tear into a pearl of wisdom, and find the blessing in every curse.” – Anthon St. Maarten

Thus, I understand how social media contributes greatly to the rise in depression especially among teens. Especially that keeping in touch is no longer about face to face, but instead screen to screen, says Susie East from CNN. This is sad.

However, it is still a golden rule to stay real! As the saying goes:

Work for a cause, not for applause. Live life to express, not to impress. Don’t strive to make your presence noticed, just your absence felt.

No need to explain.

So, as I end this post, here are some tips on making an impression on social media:

  • Whatever makes a good impression on the heart seems lovely in the eye. – Saadi
  • The brand is just a perception. and perception will match reality over time. Sometimes it will be ahead, other times it will be behind. But a brand is simply a collective impression some have about a product. – Elon Musk
  • A brand for a company is like a reputation for a person. – Jeff Bezos
  • Be the type of person you want to meet. – Anonymous

Who Says?

As a mother to two adorable daughters, I am humbled each day by their presence. I mean, they used to be just that miracle of life which blossomed from a minute uncertainty to vivid reality. Such that, as they grow up before my eyes, I wish I can protect them and shelter them in all ways I can. However, when they start to set out themselves into the real harsh world, it is a fact that it will be their own battle. Brave, Honest, Beautiful

Reading  today’s Daily Prompt: Harmony has given me a mental block. It seems that I cannot even think of a word to write about. For sure, if it’s only one of those fuelled up days, I might even draft up to a 3000 word blog. (That’s seldom though!).

However, guess what? Suddenly while listening to my playlist music on youtube, I heard this upbeat, youthful, inspiring song. Continue reading
